The Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, the Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, Amel Abdellatif, and the President of the Supreme Council of the Arabic Language, Salah Belaid, oversaw the official launch ceremony of the glossary of terms used in trade and economy.
According to a ministry statement, the glossary was developed through institutional cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion and the Ministry of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, with scientific contributions from the Supreme Council of the Arabic Language.
The launch ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion. The glossary features a trilingual lexicon in Arabic, French, and English, encompassing more than 1,450 terms used across various fields of trade and economy. Each term is accompanied by an explanation, along with a collection of relevant administrative documents.
Minister Rezig stated that the publication of this glossary represents a significant step toward modernizing the commercial system and enhancing transparency in transactions. He noted that it will help unify terminology to ensure the use of accurate and accessible language for all stakeholders in the sector.
The Minister also called for the glossary to be adopted as a practical and linguistic reference for professionals, while expanding its use to include researchers, students, and economic operators.
Minister Abdellatif highlighted the importance of the glossary, emphasizing that it serves as a practical tool to enhance coordination between various bodies, facilitate communication among economic operators, and improve the quality of economic and commercial discourse.
The glossary’s significance is particularly evident in addressing challenges caused by inconsistent technical terminology, which often complicates the interpretation of legal texts, the application of regulations, and the processing of economic operators’ files. It also directly impacts the effectiveness of market regulation and consumer protection.
Salah Belaid noted that the glossary is the result of ongoing scientific efforts, drawing on the Council’s previous experience in creating functional guides and established references in the trade sector. This work followed a precise methodology adopted by a specialized committee, supported by continuous monitoring and evaluation.
The President of the Supreme Council of the Arabic Language emphasized the importance of unifying specialized terminology and the glossary’s role in supporting institutional communication and promoting the use of the Arabic language in economic and commercial sectors.
