Indonesia Expresses Interest in Investing in Algeria’s Energy and Mining Sectors

The Minister of State and Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received a high-level delegation from the Republic of Indonesia on Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters. The delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Sudaryono, according to a ministry statement.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen and develop Algerian-Indonesian cooperation relations in several fields, particularly in the energy and mining sectors. They exchanged views on partnership prospects between the two countries’ institutions, in light of the growing interest shown by Indonesian companies in investing in Algeria, such as Pertamina and Pupuk Indonesia.

In this context, the talks touched upon strengthening cooperation between the Sonatrach Group and Pertamina, especially in the oil and gas industry, including liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The meeting also addressed cooperation prospects between the Sonarem Group and its subsidiaries and Pupuk Indonesia, a leader in the chemical industry and fertilizer production, which expressed interest in developing joint projects in the phosphate and gas sectors in Algeria.

Furthermore, the two sides discussed ways to enhance and develop cooperation in the mining sector in general, particularly in the fields of exploitation, processing, and marketing of phosphate, as well as the production of various types of fertilizers, contributing to creating added value and strengthening national production capacities.

During the meeting, the Minister of State and Minister of Energy and Mines emphasized Algeria’s commitment to building balanced and fruitful strategic partnerships with friendly countries, based on the principle of mutual benefit, technology transfer, and the development of national resources. He also highlighted the importance of benefiting from successful international experiences, such as the Indonesian experience in developing manufacturing industries, particularly in the field of phosphate fertilizer production.
