Political Parties Bill Receives Political Praise

Fateh Boutbig, head of the Future Front party, praised the provisions of the organic draft law concerning political parties, stating that it arrived at an opportune time with new rules and a fresh vision, particularly regarding the development of political and party life. In a press statement on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the draft law’s discussion session, Boutbig emphasized that the text encourages democratic decision-making and contributes to building party institutions that comply with the law, especially concerning oversight through the use of funds.

He added that the law simplifies procedures by opening opportunities for youth and women through the establishment of a minimum quota of at least 10 percent. He considered this a significant step for the government, as it provides a real opportunity for young people to move toward building a balanced society. The head of the Future Front also praised the allocation of sufficient time to discuss the draft law, both at the committee level in the People’s National Assembly—which heard from 23 political parties and other stakeholders to align viewpoints—asserting that the process was neither superficial nor exclusionary.

For his part, Member of Parliament Kamal Benkhalouf revealed the most prominent amendments proposed by his party regarding the political parties bill, explaining that most of the submitted proposals were accepted. These included an article related to the creation of an electronic platform at the Ministry of Interior to regulate the relationship between the administration and the party.

Benkhalouf noted that among the proposed amendments was one concerning the limit on the number of conference delegates to 600. He argued that this fixed number is inappropriate given the potential for the number of provinces to change, which might necessitate future legal amendments. He explained that this limit was replaced by fixed rules that ensure the continuity of the process regardless of changes in the number of provinces. He also addressed a proposal to eliminate “political nomadism” at the local level, aiming to ensure the stability of municipal and provincial councils.
