Preparatory meeting to begin exploitation of the zinc and lead mine in Bejaia

The Wali of Bejaia, Kamel Eddine Kerbouche, chaired a coordination meeting on Wednesday to finalize the arrangements before launching the zinc and lead mine exploitation project located between the municipalities of Tala Hamza and Amizour in the coming days.

The meeting was attended by the CEO of the Sonarem Group, Reda Belhadj, the President of the Bejaia Provincial People’s Assembly, and the project manager representing the Algerian-Australian joint venture “BZL.” Also present were members of the National People’s Assembly, the acting heads of the Amizour and Tichy districts, the mayors of Tala Hamza and Amizour, and relevant executive directors.

During the meeting, the Wali emphasized the “continuous support for this strategic project,” highlighting the expected economic and social benefits. These include the creation of direct and indirect jobs, the enhancement of vocational training opportunities, the development of the mining processing industry, and the transfer of expertise and technology.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to listen to the concerns of landowners, who expressed their welcome for the project and their support for all initiatives aimed at driving development in the region.
