The Minister of Irrigation and the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries chaired a working session on Thursday, attended by officials from both ministries. The meeting was dedicated to following up on the supplementary irrigation program for strategic crops in large-scale perimeters.
A statement from the Ministry of Irrigation noted that Ministers Taha Derbal and Yacine Walid emphasized the vital role of the agricultural sector in the country. They reviewed the significant resources mobilized by the state to provide the necessary water resources to boost national production, particularly in strategic sectors.
Both ministers praised the level of coordination between the irrigation and agriculture sectors, stressing the importance of rational and sustainable water use. They highlighted the need to adopt water-saving irrigation systems and diversify water sources, including the use of treated wastewater, to ensure the protection of this vital resource.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continuing joint efforts and strengthening field coordination between various bodies and institutions under both sectors. This aims to address national food security challenges and promote high-quality, sustainable local agricultural production in line with the country’s development aspirations.
