Exploring Ways for Algerian-Ivorian Energy Cooperation

Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies Mourad Adjal received Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and current President of the Ministerial Meeting of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO), during his working visit to Algeria. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the current state and prospects of cooperation between Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire.

During the meeting, Minister Adjal expressed his pride in conveying the greetings of the President of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, to the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He emphasized Algeria’s commitment to elevating bilateral cooperation to levels that align with efforts to support energy development in Africa and enhance regional energy security.

The Minister also confirmed Algeria’s readiness to establish strategic and reliable partnerships within significant timeframes, particularly in the fields of electricity production, transmission, and distribution, as well as the manufacturing of electrical equipment, training, and renewable energies, following a win-win approach. Adjal reiterated Algeria’s willingness to support Côte d’Ivoire by transferring its technical expertise in various energy sectors to assist the country in developing its energy sector and national capabilities.

For his part, the Ivorian Minister praised the level of expertise and professionalism Algeria possesses in the energy field. He expressed satisfaction with the solutions and proposals presented by the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies regarding several discussed issues. He also highlighted his country’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Algeria, especially in electricity production, transmission, and distribution, supporting Ivorian energy networks, and related industrial sectors.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold technical meetings between working groups from both sides. These meetings aim to prepare in-depth studies on potential cooperation and partnership opportunities to ensure their implementation under the best conditions and as soon as possible.
