The Central Committee of the National Liberation Front (FLN) concluded its meeting today at the Higher School of Hotel Management west of Algiers. The session resulted in the approval of the general policy statement, which included renewed support for the party’s Secretary-General and the endorsement of a new political bureau.
During the session, the FLN Secretary-General announced changes to the Political Bureau stemming from the 12th Congress. Nine new members were appointed, while several prominent figures were removed from the leadership body.
Ben Mbarek linked the changes in the Political Bureau to the process of injecting new life into the party’s structures, enhancing its dynamism, and improving its political and organizational performance. He stated that these moves aim to keep pace with current challenges and prepare for upcoming elections with seriousness and responsibility.
He assured those affected that the change should not be understood in any way as a slight to their value or a reduction of their contribution, but is rather dictated by the necessities of the current stage and the requirements of renewal and injecting new blood into the party structures.
The session is significant due to its timing, occurring just days before the electorate is called to vote in the legislative elections. This move puts an end to the ongoing debate regarding potential changes in the party’s leadership, a recurring issue within the veteran party on the eve of electoral contests.
Reports indicate that the FLN Secretary-General has referred several leaders to the disciplinary committee, including former Political Bureau member Sid Ahmed Tamamri.
