Algeria-Serbia: A Promising Energy and Mining Partnership

Minister of State, Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held talks on Tuesday in Algiers with the Serbian Minister for International Economic Cooperation and Vice-Chairman of the Algerian-Serbian Joint Committee, Nenad Popovic. Popovic is on an official visit to Algeria as part of a delegation led by Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, in the presence of the Secretary of State for Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer, along with several officials from both sides.

During the meeting, both parties praised the strength of the historical friendship between Algeria and Serbia, emphasizing their shared commitment to strengthening economic cooperation to reflect the distinguished level of relations between the two countries. They also noted the positive momentum in bilateral relations, particularly through mutual visits and the shared desire to provide a new impetus to the Algerian-Serbian partnership.

The discussions focused on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of hydrocarbons and mines, exploring investment and partnership opportunities in the oil and gas industry and manufacturing industries. They also discussed digitalization, engineering, equipment manufacturing, and strengthening trade relations between the institutions of both countries, particularly in the marketing of natural gas.

Furthermore, the two sides reviewed cooperation opportunities in the exploitation and processing of mineral resources in Algeria, as well as geological studies. They emphasized the importance of benefiting from Serbian expertise in these fields, especially in the fertilizer industry, the exchange of expertise, and the transfer of technology and the latest techniques used in the mining industry.
