Algeria-Tunisia: Increasing Cooperation in Hydrocarbon Production, Marketing, and Electricity Transmission

Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab, and Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies Mourad Adjal, received on Wednesday the President of the Tunisian National Council of Regions and Districts, Imed Derbali, who is on an official visit to Algeria leading a parliamentary delegation. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines in charge of Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer, and the Vice President of the Council of the Nation, Rabah Beghali, along with several officials from both ministries.

Discussions focused on reviewing the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, hydrocarbons, mines, renewable energies, and energy transition. These relations were described as historical and deep, with both sides exploring ways to strengthen and develop them, particularly in the production and marketing of hydrocarbons, electricity production and transmission, as well as new and renewable energies.

The two sides also discussed the progress of joint projects, specifically the project to strengthen the electrical interconnection between Algeria and Tunisia. They also examined cooperation opportunities in the mining sector, particularly in the exploitation and processing of phosphate products, and the promotion of expertise exchange and training.

On this occasion, the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, and the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies provided an overview of the main development programs for their respective sectors. They expressed their readiness to enhance and promote cooperation between the institutions of both countries, in line with the will of the two nations’ leaders and reflecting the strong political will to establish an effective and sustainable economic partnership.
