Algerian-Mauritanian Talks to Enhance Foreign Trade Cooperation

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, held talks on Monday with the Mauritanian Minister of Trade and Tourism, Zeinebou bint Ahmednah. She is currently on a working visit to Algeria as part of a high-level ministerial delegation led by Mauritanian Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay, marking the 20th session of the Algerian-Mauritanian Great Joint Commission for Cooperation.

The discussions focused on several areas aimed at strengthening trade cooperation between the two countries, particularly the continuation of expert-level work to finalize a preferential trade agreement. This agreement is intended to enhance trade exchanges and expand market access for products in both nations.

The two sides also addressed ways to facilitate and simplify customs procedures for goods between Algeria and Mauritania to support the flow of trade and encourage economic operators to intensify their commercial activities. In this context, they discussed preparations for the eighth edition of the Algerian Products and Services Exhibition in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, scheduled for May 5 to 11, 2026. This event is seen as a significant economic platform for strengthening the presence of Algerian products in the Mauritanian market and developing partnerships between economic operators.

Furthermore, the talks covered mechanisms to activate existing foreign trade agreements and preparations for the tenth session of the Algerian-Mauritanian Business Council. They also discussed organizing bilateral meetings between business leaders from both countries to foster economic partnership opportunities.
