The President of Algeria’s Supreme Islamic Council, Mabrouk Zid El Khir, has described the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV to Algeria as an exceptional milestone reflecting a shared commitment to consolidating values of peace and coexistence among peoples.
Speaking exclusively to dzwatch, Zid El Khir stated that ‘Algeria, by hosting the Supreme Pontiff, evokes its long history shaped by successive civilizations and a human heritage built on coexistence, tolerance, and the defense of peace — making it a bridge of communication and a voice for the oppressed.’
He highlighted the visit’s motto ‘Peace Be Upon You’ as expressing ‘a deep philosophy of peace, now a civilizational necessity to preserve nations and protect values of goodness and cooperation.’
The official also noted the visit carries a profound diplomatic dimension, with Algeria and the Vatican jointly presenting ‘a model of international relations built on wisdom,’ while its humanitarian aspect serves as ‘a reminder to stand beside oppressed peoples and uphold justice worldwide.’
Zid El Khir further emphasized the visit’s spiritual-historical ties to Saint Augustine, born on Algerian soil, affirming that Algeria ‘remains a source of noble values and a symbol of respect, tolerance, and solidarity.’
