The commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Michael Langley, delivered an exclusive statement to dzwatch following his high-profile meeting with Algeria’s Chief of Staff, General Said Chengriha, expressing strong admiration for Algeria’s strategic role on the continent.
The American general told dzwatch that the United States faces the same threats as Algeria — including terrorism, drug trafficking intertwined with smuggling networks and organized crime, and illegal migration destabilizing multiple nations across the region.
“We deeply respect that Algeria has taken an extremely firm stance and worked diligently to stand as a barrier against these threats,” the general stated exclusively.
He concluded with a significant diplomatic gesture, noting: “This is the 250th anniversary of American independence, and we share a history of struggle for freedom and liberation from colonial powers — we are very proud that the United States was among the first to swiftly recognize Algeria following its independence.”
