Provincial authorities in Boumerdes have suspended the Mayor of Borj Menaiel from his duties as part of an ongoing investigation into local governance misconduct, dzwatch has learned exclusively.
The suspension is part of a broader crackdown targeting several elected officials across the region, including the Mayor of Chaaba El Amer, following mounting citizen complaints over deteriorating public services, crumbling roads, widespread potholes, and failing street lighting in multiple municipalities.
Observers told dzwatch that this decisive step signals Algeria’s firm commitment to holding local officials accountable, reinforcing transparency in the management of public resources and restoring citizens’ trust in local institutions.
