Sofiane Chayeb, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and in charge of the National Diaspora Abroad, presided over the official inauguration ceremony of Algeria’s new Consulate General in San Francisco on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
According to a statement published on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official Facebook account, Chayeb was on a working visit to the United States when he travelled to San Francisco to oversee the formal opening of the consular facility. The ceremony was attended by the Consul General as well as representatives of active Algerian community organisations operating within the consulate’s jurisdiction.
The ministry stated that the inauguration of the new consular facility reflects the commitment of Algeria’s senior authorities to better serving the national diaspora abroad, bringing administration closer to citizens, and ensuring high-quality consular services.
The opening also represents an additional step in Algeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its consular network across different regions of the world, the statement added.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Secretary of State to inspect the various consular departments and to review the progress of work within the new premises.
