Algeria’s crude oil exports to Spain recorded a dramatic surge in April 2026, jumping by 60,000 barrels per day — a month-on-month growth exceeding 106% — as disruptions to Gulf supply routes following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz pushed European buyers toward reliable Algerian energy.
Spain’s imports of Algerian crude oil and petroleum products soared to 116,000 barrels per day in April, up sharply from just 56,000 barrels recorded in March, dzwatch has learned.
Despite this monthly spike, Algeria’s total oil exports to Spain in April 2026 remained below the 152,000 barrels per day recorded during the same month in 2025.
Spain remains one of Algeria’s most strategic energy partners, absorbing 13% of Algeria’s total oil exports last month. However, over the first four months of 2026, Algeria’s average crude and product exports stood at 743,000 barrels per day, slightly below the 772,000 barrels recorded during the same period in 2025.
