A delegation from Algeria’s Sonelgaz group has arrived in N’Djamena to lay the groundwork for a major 40-megawatt electricity generation plant in Chad, dzwatch has learned exclusively.
The mission, led by Sonelgaz International CEO Yazid Djallouli, was received by Chad’s electricity authority Tchad Elec, Algeria’s ambassador to Chad, and senior officials from Chad’s Ministry of Energy.
The delegation also held high-level meetings with Chad’s Minister of Finance and Minister of Water and Energy, reflecting the strategic weight of this energy partnership.
The project directly fulfills directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to deepen South-South cooperation across Africa, following Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby’s official state visit to Algeria in late April.
Technical working sessions covered site assessments, grid connection analysis, equipment needs, and a joint roadmap to ensure the plant is delivered on schedule to the highest standards — reinforcing Algeria’s role as Africa’s leading energy partner.
