Algeria’s delegation attending the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva held a working meeting with Christine Steggling, Director of Management and Partnerships at the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
Speaking exclusively to dzwatch, officials confirmed the talks centered on priority areas in the fight against HIV/AIDS, particularly the triple elimination of mother-to-child transmission through early detection, improved healthcare coverage, and enhanced medical follow-up for mothers and newborns.
Discussions also addressed strengthening prevention among vulnerable groups through a comprehensive approach encompassing awareness, access to health services, early diagnosis, and psychosocial support.
Crucially, both sides explored the possibility of Algeria hosting a regional UNAIDS office, citing the country’s strategic positioning, public health expertise, and sustained commitment to epidemic prevention programs.
Both parties reaffirmed their shared determination to advance partnership with UNAIDS, contributing to public health and sustainable development goals at regional and international levels.
