Sonatrach Delivers First LPG Shipment to Chad Under Historic Energy Partnership

Algeria’s energy giant Sonatrach has loaded its first liquefied petroleum gas (butane) shipment bound for the port of Douala, Cameroon, from where it will be transported overland to Chad — marking a landmark milestone in Algeria’s expanding African energy strategy.

The delivery follows a framework agreement signed between Sonatrach and Chadian distributor Gazkom on April 21, 2026, after both parties explored the feasibility of supplying Chad with LPG. The deal represents Sonatrach’s first direct relationship with a local distributor in the Sahel region, opening the door to broader commercial partnerships across Africa.

The agreement builds on a hydrocarbon and mining cooperation protocol signed between Algeria and Chad on December 17, 2025, aimed at strengthening South-South strategic partnerships, promoting technology transfer, and launching joint exploration and production projects.

Sonatrach told dzwatch that this initiative reflects Algeria’s commitment to becoming a key energy supplier for the African continent.
