Sahrawi Activist Aminatou Haidar Advocates for Western Sahara Justice from Stockholm

Sahrawi human rights defender Aminatou Haidar, President of the Sahrawi League Against Moroccan Occupation, continued her powerful advocacy campaign in Stockholm, Sweden, shining a critical spotlight on the deteriorating human rights situation in the Moroccan-occupied territories of Western Sahara.

Haidar told dzwatch that she met with leading international human rights organizations to coordinate efforts and expose the systematic repression occurring in occupied cities, briefing officials on ongoing atrocities committed against Sahrawi civilians and activists, including dire prison conditions and surveillance of independence advocates.

She also highlighted Morocco’s systematic plundering of Western Sahara’s natural resources and settler-colonial policies designed to alter the region’s demographic composition and erase Sahrawi national identity. She warned that these policies are pushing youth toward migration while drug proliferation is weaponized to undermine community resilience.

Sweden’s Foreign Ministry received Haidar and her delegation, providing a platform to discuss the conflict’s latest developments. She urged Swedish diplomats to activate international pressure for a just, lasting solution respecting international legitimacy resolutions, enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

Her visit concluded with a high-level diplomatic meeting with ambassadors of friendly nations, reaffirming unwavering commitment to the Sahrawi people’s legitimate struggle.
