China has announced significant new measures designed to streamline imports from Africa, bolstering trade relations through the enhancement of 'green channels' and the effective implementation of zero-tariff treatment for African nations maintaining diplomatic ties with Beijing.

During a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that these initiatives aim to broaden African product access to the Chinese market and deepen mutual benefits for both Chinese and African populations. This announcement follows the General Administration of Customs (GAC) declaration that, effective July 20th, China will grant full market access to African coffee beans that meet current sanitary requirements.

The GAC specified that coffee beans from all African countries with diplomatic relations with China can now be exported to the Chinese market, provided they adhere to the stipulations outlined in announcement No. 68 of 2026. Chinese authorities confirmed that coffee beans are now part of a growing list of agricultural products eligible for unified regional access to the Chinese market.

Ms. Mao highlighted that the zero-tariff treatment extended to the 53 affected African countries represents a 'new window of opportunity' for African exports. She affirmed that this policy underscores China's commitment to fostering cooperation based on 'sincerity, tangible results, companionship, and good faith,' principles championed by the Chinese president in the context of Sino-African relations. The Chinese diplomat also expressed anticipation for a wider array of high-quality African products and local specialties to gain access to the Chinese market in the coming years.
