Algeria's upper house of parliament, the Council of the Nation, hosted a distinguished ceremony honoring Fayçal Boutbig, a member of the council who has been elected as the President of the Pan-African Parliament for the legislative term 2026-2029. The high-profile gathering saw the attendance of numerous senior state officials, including the President of the Constitutional Court, Leila Assilawi; Ammar Abba, advisor to the Algerian President for Diplomatic Affairs; Kamel Sidi Said, advisor to the President for the General Directorate of Communication; Minister of Relations with Parliament, Nabila Djilali; Secretaries of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Soufiane Chaib and Salma Bakhta Mansouri; Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounas Maâgourman; a representative of the Director-General of Documentation and External Security; and Abed Hellouz, Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Development.
In his address, Speaker Naceri expressed immense pride in this continental gain for Algeria, viewing the election of one of its citizens to lead the highest African parliamentary body as a testament to the nation's increasing prominence. He attributed this achievement to the strategic vision of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his efforts to bolster Algeria's presence in continental and international institutions. Naceri extended profound gratitude to President Tebboune for his unwavering commitment to strengthening Algeria's African ties and supporting national competencies and diplomacy on the global stage.
He further lauded the concerted efforts of various state institutions in realizing this significant accomplishment. Special recognition was given to the role played by Ibrahim Boughali, President of the People's National Assembly, in parliamentary diplomacy, as well as the invaluable contributions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its diplomatic missions across Africa, which were instrumental in supporting Algeria's candidacy and ensuring its success.
Mr. Boutbig, in turn, conveyed his deep honor at the tribute. He described his election as President of the Pan-African Parliament as a culmination of Algeria's standing in Africa and a victory for its diplomacy and institutions.
