Algeria’s Health Minister and Elias Zerhouni Foundation Forge Partnership for Digital Health Advancement

Algerian Minister of Health, Professor Mohamed Sidiq Ait Messoudan, held a significant meeting with Professor Elias Zerhouni, head of the Elias Zerhouni Charity Foundation and founder of the AHSCEN project for the Algerian e-learning network in health sciences. The meeting, also attended by Professor Mostefa Khiyati, president of the National Authority for Health Promotion and Research Development (FORAM), and Professor Sahraoui Saleh, AHSCEN project coordinator in Algeria, aimed to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation in the health sector, particularly in training, digitalization, and medical innovation.

During the discussions, Minister Ait Messoudan highlighted the advancements and reforms within Algeria's health sector, emphasizing the critical role of digitalization and the development of health platforms in improving service quality and modernizing management and training practices. He lauded Professor Zerhouni's initiative, which leverages e-learning technologies and video lectures to provide medical and paramedical students with access to the latest global scientific and technological developments, fostering scientific exchange among students, professors, and experts both domestically and internationally.

Professor Zerhouni commended the progress of the AHSCEN project, noting the active participation of higher education institutes for paramedical training as a sign of rapid integration into the ambitious project. He stressed the importance of investing in human capital and modern technologies to build a contemporary and effective health system that meets citizens' aspirations.

The Minister underscored the necessity of updating medical information and adopting innovations through modern technologies in both in-person and remote training, especially given the rapid global advancements. Discussions also covered strategies to bolster health coverage across the nation, ensuring equitable access to healthcare through enhanced telemedicine and remote radiology services via digital platforms, thereby bringing healthcare closer to remote areas and improving diagnostic and follow-up efficiency.

Concluding the meeting, Minister Ait Messoudan invited Professor Zerhouni to support the ministry's efforts in developing the national health system with his expertise. Professor Zerhouni expressed his readiness to contribute his experience to the ministry's projects in digitalization, digital health, and artificial intelligence, aiming to enhance health service efficacy and align the national health system with international standards.
