Algeria and Germany signed 31 agreements and memoranda of understanding during the Algerian-German Economic Forum held alongside President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s official visit to Germany, marking a major step toward expanding bilateral economic cooperation and establishing a stronger strategic partnership.
The agreements cover a wide range of sectors, with energy taking a central role. Sonatrach signed a memorandum of understanding with Germany’s VNG to begin negotiations on renewing their natural gas export contract and increasing gas supplies to the German market. The Algerian energy company also concluded an agreement with Bosch to localise the production of electrolysers used in green hydrogen generation.
Additional energy agreements included memoranda between LIVE EO and both Sonatrach and Sonelgaz to develop digital solutions and advanced technologies for the energy and gas sectors. TRICERA Energy and Algeria’s IRIS also agreed to cooperate on renewable energy projects.
Industrial cooperation featured prominently, with Opel and the Halil Group signing a memorandum to explore investment opportunities. Condor partnered with Maincor Rohrsysteme to manufacture central heating radiators locally, while GEKO Industrie and SCHUNK agreed to produce automotive wiring harnesses in Algeria. Another agreement established a joint venture between ASOR/ASCEND and VOLKSLIFT for elevator manufacturing.
The industrial package also includes projects for producing decorative paper used in wood manufacturing, assembling energy storage batteries, expanding battery production, developing tramway manufacturing, producing melamine panels and supplying equipment and technologies for the oil and gas industry.
In the healthcare sector, Saidal signed two memoranda with Boehringer Ingelheim to locally manufacture four strategic pharmaceutical molecules for treating diabetes, heart failure and kidney disease, while expanding cooperation in research and development. Additional agreements support the production of medical equipment, veterinary medicines and biotechnology products.
The transport sector was strengthened through five memoranda between Siemens Mobility, the National Railway Transport Company and Metro El Djazaïr to modernise rail infrastructure, improve urban mobility and transfer German technology and expertise.
Other agreements covered digital transformation, solar-powered desalination, green industry, silicon production for solar technologies, tourism development and enhanced cooperation between the Algerian-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, creating new opportunities for investment, technology transfer and long-term economic growth.
