President Tebboune Continues Germany Visit as Berlin Hosts Algerian-German Economic Forum

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune continued his official visit to Germany on Friday at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as both countries seek to strengthen their political and economic partnership.
Berlin is expected to host the Algerian-German Economic Forum later in the day, bringing together senior officials, business leaders and investors from both countries. The event is due to conclude with the signing of several agreements covering strategic sectors, including hydrocarbons, renewable energy, the energy transition, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and advanced technology.
The initiative reflects the shared determination of Algeria and Germany to give fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation and expand relations in ways that benefit both countries.
President Tebboune began his visit on Wednesday by meeting members of the Algerian community in Germany. During the meeting, he instructed the government to address their concerns and support their investment projects. He also announced plans to open a new direct air route between Algiers and Berlin, supported by the acquisition of additional aircraft.
On Thursday, Tebboune received an official welcome from Steinmeier at Villa Borsig. The two presidents held bilateral talks, followed by expanded discussions involving their delegations. Tebboune also met German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
During a joint press conference, the Algerian president described relations between Algeria and Germany as strong and steadily improving since their establishment in 1962.
The visit also produced a joint declaration outlining a strategic partnership agenda. Both sides agreed to deepen political, economic, trade and energy cooperation, explore joint research projects and work together in emerging technologies and innovation.
Algeria and Germany also signed a declaration of intent to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector. In addition, Sonatrach and Germany’s VNG concluded a new natural gas supply contract, opening further prospects for bilateral energy cooperation.
