At the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday, Minister of Health Abdelhak Saïhi highlighted the effective strategy adopted by Algeria to improve its health system by making the patient the focus of all reforms, while expanding and generalizing local health coverage.

In his speech to the participants at the 77th General Assembly of the World Health Organization, Saïhi cited the upgrading of many health units and their proximity to residents outside major cities and population centers as part of the Patient Care Program (PAM), which includes 28 goals and 143 time-bound health activities.

The minister emphasized that “everything Algeria is doing falls within the framework of sustainable development programs and the planned agenda, which is itself part of the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who places great importance on the health sector.”

In his address, the minister also praised the efforts made by the World Health Organization (WHO) in eradicating epidemics, managing health crises, and promoting health, especially during the COVID-19 crisis. He highlighted Algeria’s support for various WHO activities and initiatives.

Saïhi recalled all the approaches and programs that Algeria has adopted to develop its health system, which has made significant progress as evidenced by the numbers, such as the 100% vaccination and immunization coverage for children and the identification of groups needing health monitoring.

Additionally, Saïhi pointed out that Algeria ensures vaccination for more than 13 foreign nationalities at its borders as part of cooperation and solidarity within the African continent.

The minister revealed Algeria’s ambition to receive support from the WHO in enhancing its competencies and capacities in this field, within the framework of the Vaccination 2030 program and the Health Security Development Program implemented by the National Health Security Agency.
