Heavy Rain, Strong Winds and Extreme Heat Forecast Across Algeria

Algeria’s meteorological services have issued several weather alerts for Wednesday, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, blowing sand, and exceptionally high temperatures across a number of eastern and southern provinces.

According to an official weather bulletin, thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected in Sidi Bel Abbès, Tlemcen, Naâma, El Bayadh, Laghouat, Batna, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Béchar, Oum El Bouaghi, Khenchela, and In Guezzam.

The unstable weather conditions are forecast to begin at around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday and continue until midnight. Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious, particularly on roads and in locations vulnerable to sudden flooding or reduced visibility.

In a separate alert, meteorological authorities warned of extreme heat in the provinces of Béni Abbès, Tindouf, Adrar, and In Salah. Temperatures in these regions could reach record levels of up to 49 degrees Celsius.

The heat alert will remain in effect until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday. People are encouraged to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, and take additional precautions to protect children, older adults, and other vulnerable individuals.

The National Meteorological Office also issued warnings of strong winds accompanied by dense sandstorms in Naâma, El Bayadh, Béchar, In Salah, Adrar, and Bordj Badji Mokhtar.

These conditions are expected to begin at midday and continue until approximately 9:00 p.m. Strong winds and blowing sand may significantly reduce visibility and create difficult travel conditions, especially in open and desert areas.

Authorities have urged citizens to follow official weather updates and observe safety guidance throughout the warning period.
