Water Minister Inspects Drinking Water Supply Project in Batna
Algeria’s Minister of Water Resources, Lounas Bouzegza, continued his field visit to Batna Province by inspecting a major project aimed at improving the drinking water supply in the municipality of Ain Yagout.
The project will supply water from the treatment plant connected to the Koudiat Medouar Dam and is designed to strengthen access to drinking water for residents of Ain Yagout and Boumia, as well as several surrounding residential communities.
During the inspection, the minister received a detailed technical presentation from officials of the National Agency for Dams and Transfers (ANBT), outlining the main components of the project and the progress achieved so far.
The infrastructure includes the construction of water connection pipelines, a pumping station, and a main distribution reservoir with a storage capacity of 2,000 cubic meters. Once operational, these facilities are expected to significantly improve the reliability and availability of drinking water supplies in the targeted areas.
At the conclusion of his inspection, Bouzegza instructed officials and contractors to accelerate the pace of construction and strictly respect the deadlines established for completing the project.
The minister emphasized that the Algerian government has allocated significant financial resources to implement water infrastructure projects and improve the quality of public drinking water services.
He also stressed that the current priority is to complete all projects already under construction and bring them into service as quickly as possible, ensuring that local communities benefit from the investments without unnecessary delays.
The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen water security, modernize distribution infrastructure, and improve access to reliable drinking water supplies across Batna Province.
