Relizane Province Achieves 1.05 Million Quintals in Cereal Harvest
Relizane province has concluded its 2025-2026 agricultural harvest campaign with a collection of approximately 1.05 million quintals of various cereals. This output represents a significant increase compared to the previous season, which recorded only 300,000 quintals. The cereals were cultivated across a total area of 88,000 hectares and subsequently stored at facilities managed by the grain and dry legume cooperatives in Oued Rhiou and Relizane.
The substantial rise in production this season is primarily attributed to the considerable rainfall experienced in the region, particularly during January and February. This precipitation significantly enhanced crop yields, underscoring the province's agricultural character. The average cereal yield reached about 16 quintals per hectare, with some highly productive areas, such as Mendes and Sidi M'hamed Ben Ali, achieving yields as high as 60 quintals per hectare.
To further bolster crop storage capabilities, six new local grain storage centers became operational during the current agricultural season. These facilities, each with a capacity of 50,000 quintals, are part of eight planned centers for the province. Located in municipalities including Sidi Khattab, Belacel Bouzegza, Hadd Chekkala, Ouled Aich, and Sidi M'hamed Ben Ali, these new centers have collectively expanded the province's grain storage capacity from 900,000 quintals to 1.2 million quintals. This expansion also contributes to improved storage conditions and brings essential storage infrastructure closer to local farmers.
The successful execution of the harvest campaign was supported by substantial material resources deployed by the agricultural sector in Relizane. These resources included 324 harvesters, 3346 tractors, 629 binders, and 1240 tanks, alongside more than 1700 trailers and other equipment. This comprehensive mobilization ensured the campaign's smooth operation under favorable conditions.
