Niger Receives Algerian Su-30 Jets, Strategic Military Aid
Algeria has demonstrated firm diplomatic and military support for Niger following a recent attempted rebellion in Niamey. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune engaged directly with Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tiani via telephone, congratulating him on successfully thwarting efforts to destabilize Niger. During their conversation, President Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s unwavering commitment to stand by Niger, its people, and institutions across all sectors and under all circumstances. President Tiani, in turn, assured his Algerian counterpart that the situation was under complete control and expressed gratitude for Algeria’s solidarity.
As part of its military assistance, Algeria deployed four Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets to Niger. These jets, accompanied by an aerial refueling aircraft and a military transport aircraft, arrived at Niamey's Diori Hamani International Airport. This deployment was initiated under the direct instructions of President Tebboune, as communicated by Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, in response to a formal request from Nigerien authorities.
The Nigerien Prime Minister, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, received the Algerian delegation and conveyed his country's profound appreciation for the initiative, describing it as an embodiment of strategic support. Prime Minister Zeine acknowledged Algeria's view that any action contributing to Niger's security and sovereignty is an absolute priority. This military assistance follows an earlier delivery of four helicopters to Niger by Algeria, which included two Mi-171 transport helicopters and two Mi-24 attack helicopters.
The extensive Algerian support aims to deepen cooperation between Algiers and Niamey, particularly in the military sphere, and to reinforce regional security and stability. Furthermore, President Tebboune and President Tiani discussed the ongoing progress of joint projects previously agreed upon during President Tiani's visit to Algeria, recognizing these initiatives as a significant driver for Niger's development.
