Public Works Ministry Expedites Repair of Fire-Damaged Road Networks

The Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure, led by Minister Abdelkader Djellaoui, convened an expanded work meeting on Monday, August 31, 2026. The session was dedicated to establishing immediate procedures and measures to address damages sustained by the road network from recent wildfires, particularly in Jijel wilaya and surrounding areas. This comprehensive response follows directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on August 30, 2026, and the outcomes of a Prime Minister's meeting.
Key actions approved during the meeting include the accelerated rehabilitation of road networks and slopes. This involves mobilizing all available resources from public works enterprises and directorates in neighboring wilayas, such as Constantine and Setif, with the goal of completing priority interventions by the beginning of the next week. Efforts are also focused on reinforcing damaged slopes to ensure the safety of road users.
Additionally, the plan mandates the immediate renewal of horizontal and vertical road markings, as well as the replacement of directional signs to improve traffic conditions and route clarity. To ensure efficient implementation and coordination, central officials will be dispatched to the field. Their role is to guide teams, synchronize intervention efforts, and foster integration among all stakeholders, thereby expediting the return to normal conditions across the affected regions.
