Algiers, Berlin Target Investment in Vital Economic Sectors

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and his German counterpart Johann Wadephul held talks in Algiers, leading to an agreement on concrete measures to expand bilateral cooperation. The discussions, part of a working visit by the German minister, focused on enhancing investment and partnerships in key economic sectors. This initiative advances the strategic agenda for bilateral partnership adopted during Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's visit to Berlin in July, providing a positive dynamic to their relations.

The two ministers identified priority areas for stronger cooperation, including energy, renewables, energy transition, industry, transportation, and pharmaceuticals. They further agreed on the necessity of activating bilateral cooperation mechanisms, strengthening the legal framework, and encouraging closer ties between the business communities of both countries. These steps aim to capitalize on available investment opportunities and potential partnerships, fostering mutual economic growth.

Both sides stressed the importance of implementing agreements and partnership contracts signed during the Algerian-German Economic Forum held in July. The meeting also provided an opportunity for the ministers to exchange views on several regional and international issues of mutual interest, including developments in the Middle East, the Sahel region, and the prospects for Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.
