National Karatekas Claim 8 Gold, 37 Medals in Continental Contest

The Algerian karate delegation concluded a remarkable performance at the African Championships held in Algiers, accumulating a total of 37 medals. This impressive tally included eight gold, 12 silver, and 17 bronze medals, showcasing the regularity and versatility of the national team across various specialties and categories. Athletes from senior, junior, and cadet levels contributed to the medal count, ensuring Algeria maintained a strong presence throughout the final phases of the competition.

Adding to the nation's success, the Algerian women's team secured a bronze medal in the team kumite event. The quartet, comprising Celia Ouikane, Louiza Abou Rich, Karima Mekaoui, and Ryane Zagor, delivered a solid and collective performance, defeating the Moroccan selection 2-0 in the bronze medal match at the Mohamed-Boudiaf Olympic Complex. Their victory, achieved before a supportive home crowd, underscored the depth of female talent within Algerian karate and its ability to compete with top continental nations.
