Hemdani Details National Team’s Offensive Vision, Excludes World Cup Players

Brahim Hemdani, the newly appointed national coach, has articulated his comprehensive vision for the Algerian football team, emphasizing a forward-leaning playing style that encourages initiative and calculated risk-taking. During his inaugural press conference, Hemdani stressed the importance of building a strong collective force founded on robust defensive principles. This approach aims to maximize the offensive potential of players while drawing lessons from recent major tournaments where teams conceding numerous goals struggled to advance.

In a significant strategic move, Hemdani’s first 26-player squad for the upcoming training camp notably excludes 12 players who participated in the 2026 World Cup. These exclusions stem from a variety of factors including international retirements by Riyad Mahrez and Aïssa Mandi, suspensions for Luca Zidane and Rafik Belghali, and injuries affecting Yacine Titraoui and Nadhir Benbouali. Additionally, Oussama Benbot, Mohamed Amine Tougaï, Houssem Aouar, Hicham Boudaoui, Ramiz Zerrouki, and Farès Ghedjemis were not selected based on sporting choices, marking a clear generational shift in the team's composition.

Hemdani's methodology focuses on fostering mutual trust and ensuring players fully embrace a clear game project from the outset. The new squad, which includes midfielders such as Ibrahim Maza, Nabil Bentaleb, Farès Chaïbi, Himad Abdelli, Adil Aouchiche, and Adem Zorgane, alongside attackers like Mohamed Amoura, Moncef Bakrar, Bachir Belloumi, Adil Boulbina, Amine Chiakha, Amine Gouiri, Anis Hadj Moussa, and Ilan Kebbal, will convene for a training camp from September 21 to October 6. This period will prepare the team for the African Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers against Zambia on September 25 in Tizi Ouzou and Burundi on September 29, concluding with a friendly match against Niger on October 6.
