Cultural Sites in Algeria Slated for Digital Preservation Project

Algeria has signed documents to participate in an international project aimed at digitizing cultural heritage sites. Russian scientists, specifically from St. Petersburg, will collaborate on this initiative, which focuses on preserving monuments across Africa and the Islamic world that are currently under threat of destruction.

This cooperative effort, discussed during a panel session at the International Forum of United Cultures, involves several nations. Ethiopia, Namibia, Seychelles, Ghana, and Palestine are also signatories to the agreements. The project is set to employ advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to create "digital twins" of the selected cultural objects, ensuring their long-term preservation.

The primary objective of the work is the conservation of monuments and the memory associated with them. As highlighted by Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director General of the State Hermitage Museum, the monument itself is paramount, with all other considerations secondary. This international collaboration underscores a shared commitment to safeguarding irreplaceable cultural heritage for future generations.
