Confiscated Projects Revived for Automotive Value-Added Growth
Prime Minister Seif Ghrib confirmed that presidential directives for the recovery and relaunch of industrial projects, previously confiscated as part of anti-corruption efforts, are actively progressing. The government is committed to reviving other halted or neglected initiatives to maximize available production capacities and bolster economic development across Algeria's regions. This broader effort aims to transform these ventures into effective production units, strengthening the national economy and significantly reducing the nation's import expenditures.
During the inauguration of the "General Plastic Injection" unit in Sidi Mansour, Tissemsilt, which specializes in producing plastic components for cars, Mr. Ghrib highlighted Algeria's transition towards a genuine automotive industry rooted in local production and added value. He underscored the importance of moving beyond simple assembly to foster real industrial integration, urging approved car manufacturers within Algeria to increase their local integration efforts. The new unit, capable of producing 251,000 plastic parts annually, can manufacture various plastic components for vehicles, representing a key step in developing the automotive parts sector.
A firm deadline of December 31st was set for achieving tangible progress in localizing the production of molds for plastic components, which are currently imported. Mr. Ghrib emphasized that all approved manufacturers must adhere to new specifications for internalizing mold production, with strict directives to be issued to the Ministry of Industry for technical support to operators. The government plans to explore alternatives and solutions to expedite this localization process, aiming to build a sustainable industry rather than relying on limited value-added assembly. This strategic approach is also being extended to other sectors, including car body manufacturing in Batna, as part of a vision for an integrated national production chain to increase local content across all manufacturing stages. The Prime Minister noted that President Tebboune is personally monitoring projects involving assets confiscated by final court rulings, underscoring the state's determined and quiet progress in relaunching these initiatives.
