Algeria and Oman are actively progressing towards establishing a direct maritime link between their ports and enhancing overall economic cooperation. Discussions between Ahmed Attaf, Algeria's Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, and his Omani counterpart Badr Al-Busaidi, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, focused on expanding joint investments and boosting trade exchanges. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the fraternal relations between Algeria and Oman, underscoring the importance of advancing bilateral cooperation to broader levels.
During their meeting, Minister Attaf and Minister Al-Busaidi reviewed opportunities for joint investment, exploring avenues to leverage the potential and qualifications available in both countries to forge more diverse and integrated partnerships. The proposed direct link via seaports emerged as a central topic, recognized for its anticipated role in facilitating the movement of goods and bolstering trade exchanges, thereby expanding economic cooperation between Algeria and Oman.
Complementing these discussions, practical steps are underway to strengthen cooperation in the air transport and services sector. On August 13, 2026, the Algerian Airlines Group and Oman Airports – Transom signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a framework for partnership in air services, specifically focusing on ground handling and other air activity-related services. This agreement, overseen by Algerian Airlines Group CEO Hamza Benhamouda and Oman Airports – Transom CEO Nasser bin Ahmed Al-Sharji, is part of an executive cooperation program in transport, logistics, and digitalization previously signed between the two nations in the first half of 2026.
The Memorandum of Understanding opens avenues for both parties to explore joint projects aimed at improving service quality and enhancing the passenger experience.
