New Automotive Plant Targets 100,000 Vehicles Annually
The JAC-Emin Auto factory, situated in Tamazoura within the wilaya of Aïn Témouchent, has begun the assembly of trucks from the Chinese brand JAC Motors. Production commenced recently, with an initial daily output of 60 trucks. This rate is projected to increase progressively to between 80 and 90 units per day. This operational phase was made possible following the customs clearance of containers representing approximately 3,500 truck kits, as stated by Elyas Ferroukhi, advisor to the CEO of Emin Auto. The assembly process involves around 400 parts, handled by Algerian and Chinese technicians. The factory plans to integrate 15 models into its production program, including various buses, with the 1040 S model being the first destined for the market in multiple configurations.
The industrial project by Emin Auto outlines a long-term production capacity of 100,000 vehicles per year, with 40% of this output targeted for export. The company also aims for a local integration rate exceeding 30%. Representing an investment of 8 billion dinars, the facility is designed to generate 1,700 jobs upon full realization, building on the approximately 380 direct jobs created at the startup phase. Future development plans for the site include the local manufacturing of engines, alongside the stamping and painting of chassis and cabins on-site. This progression is set to facilitate a transition from kit assembly towards production with progressively increased local integration.
Emin Auto and JAC have collaborated on this project for several years, having awaited approval from Algerian authorities since 2019 to launch production. The main factory construction and installation of production lines were completed prior to obtaining this authorization. JAC supports the initiative through technology transfer and the training of Algerian personnel, with some workers having received training in China and Chinese technicians providing on-site assistance in Tamazoura. This partnership is also intended to help the Algerian company expand its exports across the African continent. The industrial complex also encompasses a dedicated unit for engine manufacturing, with an announced initial capacity of 40,000 JAC engines per year, targeting 80,000 units in the medium term. Additionally, more than 30 Chinese subcontractors have expressed interest in establishing partnerships in Algeria with local companies specializing in spare parts and accessories.
