Nigerien Premier Praises Algeria’s UN General Assembly Role

Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine commended Algeria's positive role and continuous support for Niger during his address at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Prime Minister Zeine affirmed that "Niger stands on its feet because Algeria chose to accompany it," underscoring Algeria's steadfast commitment to its neighbor's stability and development on the international stage. This statement served as a testament to Algeria's consistent political doctrine, which advocates for regional stability and the promotion of peaceful solutions to crises.

The Nigerien official's remarks highlighted the extensive nature of Algeria's partnership, which encompasses crucial areas such as defense systems and cooperation in health, education, energy, and agriculture. Furthermore, Prime Minister Zeine acknowledged the significance of major joint projects, including the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline and the Trans-Saharan Road. These initiatives exemplify Algeria's direct and effective economic and security presence aimed at fostering shared stability and development in the Sahel region.

Algeria's comprehensive approach in the Sahel effectively integrates security with economic development, providing qualitative support to ensure its partners' stability. This has involved both security and development partnerships. As an illustration of its direct security support, Algeria dispatched two Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets to assist the Nigerien army in late August, countering attempts to destabilize the nation. Algeria consistently emphasizes the unity and territorial independence of Sahelian states, viewing regional security as the sole responsibility of the nations within the region, free from external ambitions.
