Algiers – From October 27 to 29, 2024, the Ministry of Fisheries and Fishery Products held its second training workshop for officials, focusing on “Environmental Management of Aquaculture Farms”, according to a statement released by the ministry on Tuesday.
The initiative falls within the framework of technical collaboration with the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), affiliated with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This workshop aimed to provide in-depth training for officials of the Ministry of Fisheries and Fishery Products on environmentally responsible practices in aquaculture management.
Training Content: Theory and Practice
The workshop featured both theoretical and practical training sessions. Participants were trained on sampling techniques for water and sediments from marine aquaculture farms, alongside methods for analyzing these samples. These analyses are carried out at the National Laboratory for Monitoring and Analysis of Fishery and Aquaculture Products, ensuring both product quality and environmental safety.
The event emphasized the importance of environmental management in aquaculture, underlining how sustainable practices contribute to the preservation of aquatic ecosystems. Officials received practical guidance on monitoring water quality and maintaining hygienic conditions to ensure sustainable fish farming.
