Algiers – Fernando Gutiérrez, representing the joint parliamentary delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, emphasized Algeria’s essential contribution to regional security stabilization during an official visit. Following a meeting with Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Gutiérrez expressed his gratitude to the president for the opportunity to discuss Algeria’s vital role in fostering security across the region.

In his remarks to the press, Gutiérrez underscored that Algeria plays a “pivotal role in maintaining stability” in its surrounding areas, a subject that was thoroughly discussed with President Tebboune during the delegation’s visit.

Mutual Security Interests in the Mediterranean

Gutiérrez further noted, “We are convinced that the security of the Northern Mediterranean countries is closely tied to that of the southern shore.” His statement highlighted the interdependent nature of security between Europe and North Africa, stressing the critical significance of Algeria’s role in broader Mediterranean stability.

Throughout their visit, NATO Parliamentary Assembly members engaged in meaningful dialogues with representatives from Algeria’s People’s National Assembly and Council of the Nation. Key topics included security, migration, counter-terrorism, and energy—a comprehensive agenda aimed at fostering greater cooperation and shared solutions on issues affecting both sides of the Mediterranean.

This delegation underscores NATO’s commitment to strengthening alliances and deepening partnerships with countries like Algeria that are crucial to stability in the Mediterranean region.
