Arab Parliamentary Union Condemns Israeli Threats Against Iraq

Beirut, November 25, 2024 – The Arab Parliamentary Union has strongly condemned Israel’s explicit threats to launch an attack on Iraq, denouncing the move as a blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the principle of respecting state sovereignty.

In a statement signed by its president, Ibrahim Boughali, who also serves as the Speaker of Algeria’s National People’s Assembly, the Union expressed its full solidarity with Iraq. The statement highlighted that these threats are part of an ongoing pattern of Israeli aggression, as evidenced by the devastating attacks on Palestinian and Lebanese populations. These acts have caused widespread destruction and resulted in thousands of casualties, underlining Israel’s destabilizing influence in the region.

A Call for International Accountability

The Arab Parliamentary Union reaffirmed its unwavering support for Iraq in facing these threats and called upon the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take legal and moral responsibility. The Union urged the global body to pressure Israel into ceasing its provocative policies, which risk dragging the region into a catastrophic war that could jeopardize international peace and security.

Strengthening Arab Unity Against Aggression

The Union concluded its statement by calling for intensified Arab, regional, and international efforts to counter Israel’s aggressive policies. It emphasized the importance of bolstering the resilience of Arab nations against such threats, contributing to the protection of Arab national security and the realization of just and comprehensive peace in the region.
