Scientific Diaspora Recognized for Algeria’s Development

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune recently received members of the High Council of the Algerian scientific community abroad, recognizing their significant contributions. During the meeting, President Tebboune addressed the scientific luminaries, including High Council coordinator Elias Zerhouni, inventor Belgacem Haba, and electric battery specialist Karim Zaghib, stating, "It is a great honor to meet you; you are the elite of the elite of the country, in all domains."

The President emphasized that Algeria's current stage of development necessitates their presence to facilitate a transition to a new phase. He highlighted that the nation is progressing with the involvement of its academics, noting that Algeria is a young country with 70% of its population under 40 years old. This demographic context underscores the long-term vision, as President Tebboune projected that the ongoing development efforts would extend for at least two to three decades, propelling Algeria to achieve the aspirations of its citizens.

This encounter coincided with the inaugural meeting of the High Council of the Algerian scientific community abroad, an entity established by presidential decree. The council's mandate is to enable Algeria to leverage the expertise of its scientific professionals residing overseas, while also providing an official channel for communication between them and national authorities, thereby streamlining engagement and avoiding intermediaries.
