President Macron Pledges French Aid for Algerian Fire Response

French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed France's support for Algeria on Monday in the wake of devastating forest fires. The announcement was made by government spokesperson Maud Bregeon following a Council of Ministers meeting, highlighting the international community's solidarity with Algeria during this challenging period.

During her address to the press at the Élysée, Ms. Bregeon reiterated France's availability to offer aid, underscoring the commitment to assist Algeria. The fires have officially claimed at least twelve lives near the regions of Béjaïa, Jijel, and Tizi-Ouzou. This concrete offer of support is a significant development as Algeria addresses the impact of these environmental disasters.

The gesture from President Macron comes as Franco-Algerian relations have experienced a notable improvement, driven by the efforts of both President Macron and his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. In response to the tragic events, Algeria has declared a three-day official mourning period and has postponed all cultural festivities and sports competitions as a mark of respect for the victims.
