Prime Minister Ghrieb Inaugurates New Product Control Laboratories

Algeria is reinforcing its national product quality control systems with the establishment of two new laboratories for analysis and oversight. These facilities, located at Algiers Port and Algiers International Airport, were inaugurated by Prime Minister Seifi Ghrieb. This action directly implements directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during a Council of Ministers meeting on June 7, 2026, which called for the creation of control laboratories across all ports and airports nationwide, with the goal of tightening oversight on consumer goods and ensuring their adherence to applicable standards before reaching the national market.

The new installations are designed to bolster national capabilities in laboratory analyses and examinations. They will subject products to various necessary technical tests, allowing for the verification of compliance with quality and safety standards. This systematic testing is expected to significantly reduce the entry of non-compliant products into the market, thereby safeguarding consumer interests.

Furthermore, this strategic move is anticipated to enhance the effectiveness of the services responsible for quality control by providing essential scientific and technical support for their operations. Specifically, these laboratories will play a crucial role in combating fraud and countering practices that could compromise consumer health and safety. The establishment of these facilities represents a progression toward developing border control mechanisms and transitioning to a more effective system for monitoring imported products, ultimately reinforcing consumer protection and fostering confidence in the quality of goods available in the national market.
