Sahara Tanezrouft Prison Project Targets Drug Barons

President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, recently presided over a meeting dedicated to monitoring the progress of works for transforming the Tanezrouft military barracks in the Great Sahara. This strategic conversion aims to establish a special prison facility specifically for drug lords and their traffickers, underscoring a significant national effort to combat organized crime networks.

The discussions during the meeting also focused on the modalities for the facility's reception, ensuring its eventual operation under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice, and its timely commissioning. This initiative reflects a comprehensive approach by the Algerian state to strengthen its judicial and security infrastructure in the fight against high-level drug trafficking.

President Tebboune's direct oversight of this project highlights the country's resolute commitment to upholding law and order and protecting its citizens from the detrimental impacts of illicit drug trade. The establishment of such a dedicated institution signifies a proactive and decisive step in enhancing Algeria's capabilities to prosecute and incarcerate major figures involved in drug-related offenses.
