Constantine – The 12th International Malouf Festival came to a joyous close on Wednesday evening in Constantine, as the audience at the Ahmed Bey Grand Performance Hall delighted in a spectacular finale featuring performances by Tiris from the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and renowned Algerian artists Reem Hakiki, Abbas Righi, and Manal Gharbi. The night was a nostalgic journey into the world of traditional music.
The evening began with the rhythmic tunes of the Tiris ensemble, whose Saharan melodies infused the hall with an infectious energy. Among their renditions was the stirring song “Algeria, Land of Freedom”, which captivated the packed audience and received extended applause.
Following this enchanting start, Algerian star Reem Hakiki, known for her mastery of Andalusian and Hawzi music, graced the stage with her powerful presence. Her captivating renditions of songs such as “Nhwak”, “And Lalla Sahranin”, “Kamila Al-Zein”, and “Mzyan Nhar Alyoum” transported the audience into a realm of exquisite melodies and musical beauty. She concluded her performance with a spiritual hymn, “Mohammed, Peace Be Upon Him, the Best of Humanity,” leaving a serene ambiance in the hall.
The evening continued with a mesmerizing performance by Manal Gharbi, who illuminated the stage with her selection of songs from the Sana’a genre, alongside classic Malouf pieces, adding a modern yet authentic touch to the repertoire.
The grand finale featured the Malouf icon Abbas Righi, whose moving performance included the deeply resonant “Lilah Wakalt Amri,” a Zajal piece cherished by the people of Constantine.
The festival’s closing ceremony honored artists and organizations that contributed to its success, accompanied by a fashion show featuring designers from Constantine, Algiers, and Annaba, showcasing traditional and contemporary Algerian styles.
The 12th International Malouf Festival, which opened on December 14, carried the theme “Malouf: Constantine’s First Bridge and Its Eternal Voice.”
