Title: Moroccan Political Event Draws Criticism for Hosting Israeli Delegation Amid Gaza Crisis
Location: Rabat – The participation of an Israeli delegation in an international political event in Rabat, organized by a Moroccan political party, has provoked widespread condemnation from human rights groups, political entities, and civil society. This latest normalization scandal coincides with Israel’s ongoing genocidal war in Gaza, further inflaming public outrage in Morocco and defying the will of its people.
Widespread Condemnation
The Moroccan Observatory Against Normalization described the presence of the Israeli delegation at the Socialist International meeting, hosted by the Union Socialist des Forces Populaires (USFP) party, as “a dangerous step contrary to the fundamental principles of global socialism.” The Observatory emphasized that this action contradicts the historical stance of the left against imperial aggression and war crimes, particularly as Israel faces international judicial proceedings for its actions in Gaza.
The Observatory urged the USFP leadership to engage in “self-criticism and apologize” to both Moroccan and Palestinian peoples. They called for leveraging Socialist International membership to prosecute Israeli war criminals and expel representatives of Zionist parties involved in crimes against humanity, evidenced and documented by international courts.
Political Reactions
The Justice and Development Party (PJD) also condemned the Israeli delegation’s participation, with parliamentary group leader Abdallah Bouanou deeming it an “unacceptable provocation to Moroccans” that warrants clarification.
Bouanou expressed dismay at the Israeli delegation’s involvement, especially amid the ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza. He criticized the USFP for extending the invitation, stating, “How could a Moroccan political entity so shamelessly host this delegation while Gaza suffers mass killings and starvation?”
He further argued that even Spain, under its current leadership supportive of Palestinian rights, would not permit such participation on its soil. He highlighted the contradiction between hosting Israeli figures in Morocco and the widespread solidarity campaigns across the country in support of Gaza and Palestine.
Civil Society and Media Critique
Moroccan writer Hassan Ahrath accused the USFP of “embracing the most prominent Zionist symbols on Moroccan soil,” arguing that the party has facilitated normalization efforts and advanced imperialist agendas in the country. He asserted that the party’s actions are blatant and shameless, urging a strong boycott of the USFP and all parties, unions, and individuals complicit in endorsing normalization.
Ahrath called for innovative and robust resistance strategies to counter the escalating political, economic, social, and cultural infiltration of Zionist interests in Morocco.
This event has intensified debates about Morocco’s role in normalization policies with Israel and their broader implications, as public solidarity with the Palestinian cause continues to grow across the nation.
