
Algiers – On Wednesday, December 25, 2024, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced a presidential pardon and calming measures benefiting 2,471 prisoners, according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.
Details of the Presidential Decision:
The statement detailed the following measures:
- Complete Pardon for Non-Incarcerated Individuals
- Individuals who are not currently in custody and have been sentenced to less than or equal to 24 months of imprisonment will receive a full pardon.
- Complete Pardon for Incarcerated Individuals
- Prisoners serving sentences of less than or equal to 18 months will also benefit from a full pardon.
- Partial Sentence Reduction
- Prisoners serving longer sentences will have their remaining terms reduced by 18 months, provided the remaining sentence does not exceed 30 years.
- Special Reductions for Vulnerable Groups
- The reduction is extended to 24 months for prisoners who are:
- 65 years or older
- Minors
- Pregnant women
- Mothers of children under the age of 3

Exceptions and Special Cases
President Tebboune reaffirmed that certain categories of prisoners, as outlined in the presidential decree, are exempt from these pardons.
Additionally, the President granted full pardons for the remaining prison terms of 14 individuals convicted of crimes affecting public order. Measures to ease judicial procedures were also extended to eight detainees currently awaiting trial, who are implicated in similar offenses.
