Hidaoui Oversees the Opening of the 20th National Children’s Theater Festival

Constantine – On Thursday, Mustafa Hidaoui, Minister of Youth and Head of the Supreme Youth Council, officially opened the 20th edition of the National Children’s Theater Festival at the “Malik Hadad” Cultural Center in Constantine.

Minister Hidaoui, who was accompanied by the National Commissioner for Child Protection, Meryem Cherfi, explained that his ministry is working on preparing a long-term action plan aimed at enhancing such events and ensuring the continuity of educational activities targeting children.

The minister emphasized the importance of organizing various cultural and intellectual activities that would strengthen educational values and develop both intellectual and physical skills in children. He noted that educational institutions and youth centers play a “central role” in offering educational and recreational programs that contribute to “building a conscious and responsible generation.”

Hidaoui also addressed the need to intensify efforts to provide an environment suitable for children, ensuring their active participation in cultural, sports, and scientific activities, in coordination with the relevant sectors.

For her part, the National Commissioner for Child Protection stated in her speech that hosting such festivals is a “significant addition for children.” She highlighted that caring for this segment of society is “an investment in the future of the country.” She also noted that child protection in Algeria has “made significant strides,” especially with the legal framework in place, notably the right of children to access culture and arts.

Cherfi added that the 20th edition of the National Children’s Theater Festival “contributes through its performances to instilling a sense of responsibility in children, especially as theater is considered the father of the arts.”

Festival curator, Sadek Mazouzi, explained that the cultural event, which coincides with the winter school holiday, will provide a great opportunity for schoolchildren to attend the scheduled performances. He further noted that this edition, which will run until December 30, features 16 theater troupes from 16 different provinces across the country.
