New York (United Nations) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has highlighted the dire humanitarian conditions facing children in Gaza this winter. The agency warned that children are freezing to death due to extreme cold and the lack of adequate shelter.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and urged the swift delivery of essential supplies to the population, particularly for children, including winter relief materials.
“Children in Gaza are freezing to death due to cold and the lack of shelter,” Lazzarini stated, pointing out that blankets and winter supplies have been stuck at crossings for months, awaiting approval to enter Gaza.
Ongoing Violations and Devastation
Lazzarini reiterated earlier remarks emphasizing that all rules of war are being violated in Gaza. Since October 2023, the population has been subjected to what he described as continuous genocidal actions by the occupying forces.
According to medical sources, the death toll from the ongoing aggression on Gaza has risen to 45,436, with 108,038 injured since the attacks began on October 7, 2023.
